NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — An indoor trampoline park planned for Northborough will instead be built in Westborough's Speedway Plaza on Route 9.
David O'Connor of Sky Zone Sports said Thursday he has received a special permit from the Westborough Planning Board to build the 30,000-square-foot facility. The only obstacle left is pending permission from Stop & Shop.
"We're pretty close to going to Westborough," O'Connor said. "The bottom line is that Stop & Shop has to approve us as a tenant."
Last week, O'Connor told The Daily Voice that he began to consider a new location after his landlord in Northborough sought to renegotiate what was originally a very good deal. At the time, he said, the Westborough location was on the top of his list.
O'Connor said Thursday that the Northborough location could still be a backup plan if Stop & Shop does not grant him the permission he needs.
"Until I hold that in my hand, it's not a sure thing," he said.
The planned trampoline park is similar to Sky Zone locations in Boston and Everett. The facility will include 18,000 square feet of trampolines and four party rooms for groups. The park is aimed primarily at ages 6 to 19 and will offer sports such as dodgeball and basketball.
O'Connor aims to open the park by June 1.
