NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Sea Dog Steak & Ale may re-brand and reopen in 2013, a company representative told the Northborough Board of Selectmen this week.

The restaurant closed its doors at 318 Main St. earlier this month, offering little in the way of explanation on its Facebook page.

Operations manager Mike Minichello told the selectmen that the restaurant, which opened in August 2011, had been losing "a good amount of money every month." He attributed this to inconsistent pricing and quality in the first eight months of operations. Even though efforts were recently made to improve, Minichello said, it was difficult to bring customers back.

"It's not anything the town did," Minichello told the selectmen.

The Northborough restaurant is the fourth outlet of the Maine-based company, which also operates restaurants in Nantucket, Woburn and Hull, Mass.

While Minichello did not guarantee that the restaurant would reopen, he said the company is raising money and will take "a couple of months" to evaluate its options.

Meanwhile, the selectmen extended the restaurant's liquor license to June 30, with a stipulation that it provide a status report in March.
