NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — A group of Northborough Girl Scouts is planning to do its part to help needy students in Worcester. And the girls are looking for help.
As part of their Silver Award Project, Gabriella Thompson, Ruth Ricciuti and Isabella Masciarelli of Girl Scout Troop 30484 set up collection boxes in the lobbies of the town's four elementary schools. The three Melican Middle School students are seeking to collect used books and other school supplies, such as markers, crayons, colored pencils and glue sticks, for young Worcester students who cannot afford them.
Though they haven't yet decided which school will receive the donations, the girls plan to make a selection before their last day of collection Jan. 18
Thompson said she was surprised to learn that some children in Worcester cannot afford school supplies.
"We figured we might want to help them out," she said.
