NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — A local nonprofit organization is seeking donations for local homeless families in Northborough, Westborough and Marlborough who have been placed in motels by the state.

The Friends of Families in Transition is teaming with the Northborough Junior Women's Club to collect new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls ages 2 to pre-teen and gift cards for teenagers. Suggested gift cards include those for McDonald's, Regal Cinemas, Charming Charlie, Ulta, Target and Walmart. The Friends of FIT also ask for gift cards to Uno Chicago Grill and Papa Gino's, as families living in motels typically have access only to a microwave for cooking meals.

The Friends of FIT will deliver these donations to needy families at an upcoming holiday party at the Northborough Town Hall Gym, which will include a dinner and a visit from Santa.

Those who are interested in donating may contact the Friends of FIT directly at or at 508-709-5519 for drop-off locations or to arrange pickup of items.
