NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — After Saturday night's hard frost, Northborough's ban on outdoor evening activities has been lifted, Town Administrator John Coderre said Monday night.

"We did hit a hard frost," Coderre said. "The majority of the mosquitoes are now dead."

All evening outdoor activities and sporting events held after 6 p.m. were postponed by town officials Sept. 10 in response to cases of West Nile virus and Eastern equine encencephalitis found in the area. Both diseases are carried by mosquitoes.

Since that time, events such as the annual Applefest celebration were scaled back to accommodate the deadline. In addition, all outdoor varsity sports games played at Algonquin were rescheduled so players would not be on the fields past 6 p.m.
