NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Thousands of National Grid customers in Northborough who were without power Tuesday now have it, according to the utility.
An estimated 675 customers are still without power as of 11:30 a.m., representing about 10 percent of the town's customer base. National Grid estimates that power will not return completely for all customers until Friday.
Meanwhile, all schools in both Northborough and Southborough got their power back overnight, allowing students to return to the classroom after two days off.
Northborough announced today that Halloween trick-or-treating will continue as originally planned this evening. Northborough police will have extra patrols on duty.
Police recommend the following safety tips for trick-or-treaters and their families:
- Adults should accompany children.
- Costumes should not hinder vision.
- Reflectorized or light color clothing is advised.
- Flashlights are a must!
- Know where you’re going.
- Never accept unwrapped candy.
- All goodies should be carefully inspected.
- Discuss road safety with children, particularly about running across streets.

I hope somebody in Town Hall gets a clear explanation from National Grid as to why we lost power in Northboro for so long and what they intend to do about it to prevent it from happening again. When they do find out let the citizens, taxpayers, and National Grid customers know. Make them put a letter in my next bill.
The last time there was a power outage National Grid did a lot of tree pruning and trimming to eliminate branches that could fall on the wires and cause power failures. How about the infrastructure, old transformers, old wiring, old poles ready to fall down or are in the wrong place or position and need to be replaced or moved? I think National Grid needs to take a more proactive role.
