NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Route 20 will be closed through the center of Northborough this weekend as CSX Railroad replaces its rail crossing on Main Street, Police Chief Mark Leahy announced Tuesday.
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, Main Street will be closed between the intersections with South Street and Patty Lane. Motorists traveling down Route 20 will be detoured along South Street and Summer Street. In addition, access will still be available for Patty Lane and Hudson Street, though traffic traveling from I-290 down Hudson Street toward the center of town will be detoured down River Street.
Truck traffic traveling down Route 20 will follow a detour route consisting of Summer Street, South Street, Northgate Road and Davis Street.
Detours will continue until work is complete on Sunday evening. Police will be stationed to assist motorists throughout the weekend.
Police warn motorists that congestion is expected, and that they should use caution and allow for extra driving time.
