NORTHBOROUGH/SUDBURY, Mass. - Doris S. Witzel, 97, died peacefully on Oct. 15, 2012 at Coleman House in Northborough. She was the wife of the late Walter H. Witzel.
She is survived by her son John A. Witzel and daughter-in-law Gayle Witzel, granddaughter and her husband Jennifer and Michael Michalik, grandson Paul Witzel, her beloved great grandchildren Emily and Andrew Michalik, brothers Gerald and William Scoones and their families.
She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Sarah Scoones, She was born in New York on August 21, 1905. In the 1940s Doris worked as a dedicated secretary at the Rome Army Air Field, NY and had her pilot’s license before her driver’s license. Eventually settling down in Sudbury, she pioneered a babysitter placement service and liked to entertain, cook, play bridge and travel.
Retiring to Ringe, NH and Acton, and ultimately to Northborough she also enjoyed reading, bird watching and doting on her grand and great grandchildren. She lived a long and happy life, full of love, friends and family. Doris will be missed by all.
Services and burial at Cathedral of the Pines, Rindge, N.H. are private.
