WORCESTER, Mass. – Two of Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis' officers are being featured in a new calendar while perched upon a cruiser without a stitch on.
The officers are Adam and Molly, a pair of Bloodhounds who specialize in scent discrimination, person tracking and cadaver work, and the calendar is being created to help raise money for protective "clothing" for Bay State canines.
Adam and Molly will appear in the 2013 color calendar being printed by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., along with other Massachusetts police dogs. Calendars are being sold for $15 online and through select retailers to raise money to provide bullet- and stab-protective vests for law enforcement dogs who currently work without the potentially life-saving equipment.
During the past 2 1/2 years, thanks almost entirely to donations from individuals, organizations and businesses – and lots of volunteer hours – the organization has been able to buy vests for 106 police dogs that work for local police departments, sheriff departments, the Massachusetts Department of Corrections and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. Vests cost more than $1,000 each, and there are over 20 dogs working unprotected on their waiting list.
