NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — An unoccupied residence on Country Candle Lane that is still under construction was broken into Friday morning, according to the Northborough Police Department.
The perpetrator "cut out and stole the copper piping from the building," police said. This is one of many incidents in recent weeks in which piping has been stolen. Police were investigating each one separately, although they say the incidents may be connected.
The thefts share similar characteristics, police say. The thieves typically enter homes that are abandoned, foreclosed or unoccupied and steal copper piping.
"The price of copper is high, and many police agencies in the area are reporting similar incidents with similar frequency," said a report compiled by Sgt. James Scesny of the Northborough Police Department.
Police ask residents to be vigilant and to keep an eye on any empty buildings in their neighborhood. Any suspicious activity should be reported to the Northborough Police Department.
