WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Units from both Westborough and Northborough responded simultaneously to a blaze reported at a structure on the Westborough town line just after 2 a.m. Thursday morning.
The fire, which is still under investigation, began in the barn at 221 Milk St., located about 50 yards from the house. No one was in the barn at the time of the fire, and no determination of the cause has been made.
Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze within about 30 minutes, but one Westborough firefighter was treated at UMass Memorial Medical Center after suffering a laceration at the scene.
Westborough Fire Captain Robert Rand said the firefighter slipped on ice outside the building when the temperature fell below freezing.
Rand said the barn has been determined to be a "complete loss" after the blaze.
