SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Protect Mass Children, a grassroots organization that works to protect children from sexual predators through legislation and community outreach, recently endorsed Dean Cavaretta, the Republican candidate for the Middlesex and Worcester District state Senate seat.

Cavaretta is running against incumbent Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton).

"We very rarely give endorsements, but felt compelled to do so because of Dean Cavaretta’s long-term commitment to public safety and our children," wrote Protect Mass Children in a press release.

The group credited Cavaretta with his work on the advisory board for Princes and Dolls, a Massachusetts non-profit dedicated to eliminating human trafficking.

"[Cavaretta] has a long history of advocating for children, and was recently endorsed by Karyn Polito, one of Massachusetts’ fiercest fighters for stronger laws to protect our children," the group wrote.

The group also criticized state Sen. Jamie Eldridge for voting against Melissa's Law. Signed by Gov. Deval Patrick in August, this "three-strikes" law eliminates parole for thrice-convicted violent criminals.
