NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — After 10 years on the Northborough K-8 School Committee, Chairwoman Nancy Berglund will not seek re-election in the spring, she announced this week.

“I’m 84 years old,” Berglund said. “Ten years is good. You have to make room for younger people.”

But Berglund, a Northborough resident for 55 years, said she isn’t finished volunteering her time for the town. A former teacher who ran her own nursery school for many years, she said she is also active in the Northborough Rotary Club and Northborough Helping Hands.

“Northborough’s a town of very committed people that get involved,” she said. “These people donate their time, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Berglund also chaired the K-8 School Committee for three years and said she was most proud of “being open to change” during her tenure.

Fueled by her daily reading habit, Berglund said, “I am a continuous learner.”

According to Assistant Town Clerk Teresa Kelly, no one has taken out papers to run for Berglund’s seat. Candidates have until March 25 to do so.
