NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — In order to comply with the town's decision to postpone all evening activities and sports after 6 p.m., the Algonquin Regional High School athletic department is currently in the process of rescheduling home games so they end before mosquitoes start to come out.
The biggest change so far is the much-anticipated varsity football home opener against Wachusett. Originally scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, the game will instead begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Athletic Director Francis Whitten said that home games will start no later than 4 p.m. in order to ensure play does not continue beyond 6 p.m.
Away games being played in towns that have not adopted this policy will not be affected.
"We'll take it a day at a time," Whitten said. "Fortunately, we have a lot of field space."
An updated schedule of games can be found here.
The Daily Voice will continue to update readers on Algonquin's sports schedule as it becomes available. Every Monday, we will run a recap of the previous week's games, as well as a look at the week ahead.
