Algonquin Sports Roundup: Girls Soccer Suffers First Loss

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Here's a quick roundup of the Algonquin varsity games you might have missed this week:

Football (1–6): Despite an early touchdown by Stephen Roy, the Tomahawks fell behind in their game against Marlborough (2–5) on Friday and lost, 20–7.

Soccer (Boys: 12–1–2; Girls: 11–1–3): The boys had a great week, winning all three of their games. The highlight of the week was a 4–1 win over fourth-ranked Nashoba (10–3–3) in which senior captain Troy Tanzer scored twice for Algonquin.

The girls won one and lost one this week—their first loss of the season. The team beat North Middlesex (4–10–1) on Tuesday, 5–0, and lost to Nashoba (11–0–4) on Thursday, 4–1. Amanda Murphy scored the only goal for the Tomahawks.

Field Hockey (8–4–2): Algonquin beat Littleton (11–2–2) on Monday, 2–1. Jackie Kimball and Maggie Wraight scored for the Tomahawks. The team tied Groton-Dunstable (3–5–3) on Wednesday, 1–1.

Girls Volleyball (15–2): Algonquin's three wins this week added to the team's 11-game winning streak. They beat Shepherd Hill (12–3) on Monday, 3–0, and Nashoba (6–8) on Wednesday, 3–0. The girls beat Hudson (7–6) on Friday, 3–1.

Cross Country (Boys: 4–3; Girls: 5–2): The boys beat Westborough (4–1) on Tuesday, 38–23. Tomahawk Greg Palkin finished the 3.1 mile course with a time of 16:44. The girls beat Westborough (2–4) on Tuesday, 37–20. Tomahawks Megan Walsh, Kyra Shreeve and Paige Casey finished in the top three with respective times of 20:19, 20:52 and 21:20.

Golf (9–7): The team lost both its matches this week. It lost to Westborough (14–1) on Monday, 212–205, and to Shrewsbury (14–4) on Wednesday, 213–198.
