Algonquin Sports Roundup: Girls Soccer, Cross Country Add Wins

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Here's a recap of the varsity games from last week that you might have missed:

Football (1–4): The Tomahawks suffered their fourth-straight loss on Friday, thanks in part to a great second quarter performance by Hudson (3–2). Two late-game touchdowns were not enough to revive Algonquin, which  lost, 34–20.

Soccer (Boys: 6–1–2; Girls: 9–0–1): The boys topped Leominster (2–4–3) on Thursday, 1–0, on senior Zach Hamilton's lone goal. Later that evening, the girls shut out Leominster (3–8), 5–0, with Lucy LeBlond scoring twice for the Tomahawks. 

The boys suffered their first loss on Saturday, 1–0, against Marlborough (7–2–2), which scored with three minutes remaining. The girls won, 2–1, against Marlborough (6–1–3). Tomahawk Michaela Horne scored two goals.

Field Hockey (4–4–1): Algonquin beat Marlborough (4–6) on Wednesday, 4–0. Taylor Long scored two goals for the Tomahawks. On Friday, the Tomahawks lost to Leominster (7–3) in a close, 1–0 match.

Girls Volleyball (9–2): The team won all three games this week. The girls beat Shrewsbury on Tuesday, 3–0, and Clinton on Wednesday, 3–0. The team defeated North Middlesex on Friday, 3–1.

Cross Country (Boys: 3–2; Girls: 4–1): The boys lost to Shrewsbury (3–1) on Tuesday, 38–19. The girls beat Shrewsbury (2–2) on Tuesday, 36–21. Algonquin's Kyra Shreeve won the three-mile race with a time of 20:28.

Golf (7–4): Algonquin lost both its matches this week. Nashoba (5–3) won by a single stroke on Monday, 210–209. Wachusett beat them on Wednesday, 213–207.
