NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Here's a recap of the varsity games from last week that you might have missed:
Football (1–2): The team took another tough loss, falling 42–3 against Nashoba. Chieftain senior John Ojuwku scored three touchdowns in the first half, creating a deficit from which the Tomahawks never recovered. The only highlight for Algonquin was Stephen Roy's 30-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Soccer (Boys: 3–0–2; Girls: 4–0–1): The boys were close to beating Shepherd Hill Tuesday when Tyler Martin scored for the Ram near the end of the game, tying the score at 1–1. On Thursday, the Tomahawks shut out Wachusett, 3–0, with goals from Connor Henry, Tyler Morin and Troy Tanzer. Meanwhile, the girls picked up two wins this week. They shut out Milford Tuesday, 4–0, and Wachusett Friday, 5–0. Tomahawk Alexa Williams scored three goals between the two games.
Field Hockey (3–3): The team shut out Hudson Wednesday, 2–0. Taylor O'Connell and Taylor Long scored for the Tomahawks. However, it lost to Shrewsbury Friday, 1–0.
Girls Volleyball (4–2): The team's four-game winning streak was broken by a couple of losses. It lost to Wachusett Tuesday, 3–0, and to Westborough Friday, 3–0.
Cross Country (Boys: 1–1; Girls 2–1): The girls beat Leominster Tuesday, 37–22. Kyra Shreeve finished first with a time of 19:38 for the 2.8-mile course while Megan Walsh finished second with a time of 19:53.
Golf (5–1): The Tomahawks beat Fitchburg, 234–189, Thursday. Matt O'Donnell, Connor Henderson and Mike Nicolo all shot one-over par for Algonquin.
