NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. — The regular season is over, and playoffs are about to begin. If you have been following Algonquin High School's winter varsity sports teams, here's what to expect this week.

  • Boys Ice Hockey: While their 8-9-3 record got them into the playoffs, the sixth-seeded boys have a tough match-up Feb. 27 against third-seed Shrewsbury, which finished its season at 15-4-1. The game will be held at the North Star Rink in Westborough, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
  • Boys Basketball: The first-seed boys earned a first-round bye on the strength of their 19-1 record, which is unmatched in the Central Division 1. The boys will play Fitchburg or Shepherd Hill in the quarterfinals Feb. 28. The game will be held at home and begin at 7 p.m.
  • Girls Basketball: With a 17-3 record, the second-second seed girls have what looks to be a favorable match-up against Worcester North on March 1. Seventh-seeded North finished its season with an 11-9 record. The game will be held at home and begin at 7 p.m.

Be sure to check The Northborough Daily Voice throughout the week for more playoff updates.
