The process of signing children out at the end of the day is not very secure *at all*. It's a madhouse, at least at MSS. I should have to present myself and identify myself to an adult before leaving the building with a child. That is not happening right now. View Comment

I understand being upset, but the way you're calling out Ms. Vacca here is completely inappropriate. Many families were inconvenienced today, that much is plain. However, what is it that you want, exactly? Dr. Cummings has already apologized for what he stands by as the right decision. He made the right call. Your statement that the weather was the same all night is completely false. Many people left for work this morning early when the roads were fine. At 6am, as Dr. Cummings stated, the temperature dropped a bit and the rain increased. Grafton is not the only district to have to make the late call, I'm sure. What's more important - our convenience or the safety of our children? When the information became available, the decision was made. I, for one, am grateful that he risked irate (and in my opinion, completely overreacting) parents in order to keep our children safe. And so should you be. View Comment

I'm disappointed that they're not removing the Bookstore Down Under and spreading the collection out to make it more accessible; not just to the handicapped, but also to the elderly and moms with strollers. It seems like an entire floor of the building is dedicated to reselling, rather than borrowing, books, which isn't part of the library's mission, is it? I hope the fact that the children's room will be HA means that relocating the children's collection to Nelson is off the table. View Comment

I have to say I agree with StevieP65. It's not "going green" if we're taking away green to get there. Better to put solar panels on top of existing structures than in open fields, isn't it? View Comment

Is there a reason we don't use Stop & Shop as a polling location? I know other towns use grocery stores, and find it odd that we use schools, thereby disrupting education of students. View Comment

It's not about performing better - national and state educational standards are becoming more challenging. Kids are expected to be able to do more (like start reading) at a younger age (much like our counterparts in Europe who start at 4). 2.5 hours is simply *not* sufficient to be teaching 5 year olds the things they need to know in order to start reading by the end of the school year. If you ask the teachers at SGES, as I have, they will tell you that more is being expected of the children at a younger age, and our kids will fall behind the standards if they don't get started sooner.
