Amazon has launched its Labor Day sale ahead of the Monday, Sept. 7, holiday, with deals spanning home goods, electronics, fashion, beauty, outdoor gear, and other categories.

Long Island Garbage Truck Catches Fire, Items Dumped In Parking Lot
A garbage truck caught fire on Long Island, but quick thinking and a fast emergency response limited the damage.
A Hempstead town sanitation truck began smoking at 1132 Wantagh Avenue in Wantagh on Friday morning, Aug. 28, the Wantagh Fire Department said.
The fire was contained to garbage inside the truck, so the items were dumped into a parking lot, the department said. Several firetrucks then arrived, and emergency crews doused the blaze with little issue, officials said.

DC Police Officer Dies Of Gunshot Wound Sustained At Police Station
A Washington, DC, police officer has died after suffering a gunshot wound at a local police station, the department confirmed.
The officer, who was not identified, was critically wounded at the Metropolitan Police Department's Second District station on the 3300 block of Idaho Avenue NW just after 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, an MPD spokesperson tells Daily Voice. The officer was taken to a hospital, where he died.
"Nothing currently indicates that another party was involved," the spokesperson said.

Rearview Camera Glitch Sparks Massive Recall Of 844K+ Cars, SUVs, Trucks
More than 844,000 vehicles are being recalled because a camera problem can block a driver's view while reversing.
Stellantis issued the recall for 844,027 Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a report filed on Thursday, Aug. 13. The recall affects certain 2026 and 2027 models.
The issue involves radio software that can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying when a vehicle is placed in reverse. The failure can reduce rear visibility and increase the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.

Drunk Driver Hit With Felony Charge After Two-Car Wreck On Long Island: Police
A drunk Long Island driver was involved in a two-car wreck on Montauk Highway on Friday night, Aug. 28, police said.
Mateo Jimenez, 38, of Westhampton, was arrested following the crash near 190 Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, the Southampton Town Police Department said. The address corresponds to a shopping plaza.
Cops responded around 8:50 p.m. Friday to the wreck and determined Jimenez, one of the drivers involved, was drunk at the time, cops said.
Jimenez was arrested and charged with felony DWI, police said. He was held overnight for arraignment Saturday morning, Aug. 29.
