A 30-year-old man from the region is in custody after allegedly assaulting his sister in front of her toddler child and threatening to shoot police officers. The Albany County incident happened at around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the town of Westerlo. Sheriff Craig Apple said deputies responded to a residence on County Route 403 for an active domestic incident involving a firearm. You may soon get a view of a rare spectacle. According to the NOAA National Weather Service's Space Weather Prediction Center, a series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) began on Wednesday, May 8. Meadowbrook Farms Recalls Chocolate Milk Over Health Risk
A family-owned farm is recalling one of its milk products that was widely sold in the region over a possible health risk. Meadowbrook Farms Dairy issued a recall for its pasteurized chocolate milk due to the milk being improperly pasteurized, according to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets. State inspectors discovered the error during a routine inspection at the company's Allegany County facility in Clarksville. A second rabid fox has been discovered in the region. The fox was found Wednesday, May 8, in Sullivan County in the town of Fremont. Related story: Wild Fox In Town Of Bethel Test Positive For Rabies According to the Sullivan County Department of Public Health, a dead baby fox (kit) in Fremont tested positive for the rabies virus. Police are asking for help in locating a man from the region who has been missing for two weeks. Rensselaer County resident Joseph Viola, of East Greenbush, was last seen at his Rhode Island Avenue residence at around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, April 25. East Greenbush Police are asking anyone who lives in the area to share home surveillance video that may have captured Viola’s movements. A 20-year-old is accused of assaulting a New York State Police trooper during a pro-Palestine protest/encampment at a college campus. The event was being held in the Hudson Valley, in Ulster County, at SUNY New Paltz on Thursday, May 2, and the state police were requested to respond. A deputy county executive in the region is accused of driving drunk. Albany County Deputy Executive Michael McLaughlin was arrested on suspicion of DWI following a traffic stop in the town of Colonie on Wednesday, May 1. New York State Police said McLaughlin was stopped on I-87 at around 11:20 p.m. and refused to provide a sample to determine his blood alcohol content. He was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and was released to a sober third party. Man Sexually Assaults Paramedic At Albany VA Hospital: Feds
A man from the region is facing federal charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a paramedic at a Veterans Affairs hospital. Rensselaer County resident Robert Seifert, age 65, of Troy, was arraigned in Albany federal court on Tuesday, April 9. Prosecutors said Seifert grabbed the paramedic’s breast and groin at the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. It was not immediately clear when the alleged assault occurred. If convicted, he could spend up to two years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

16-Year-Old Sets Fire To Bethlehem High School, Police Say
Classes were in session when a 16-year-old allegedly set fire to a high school in the region. The Albany County incident happened Tuesday, April 23, at Bethlehem High School. According to Bethlehem Police, the juvenile suspect intentionally started a fire in a school bathroom in the C wing. No students or staff were injured, but the incident forced an evacuation of the building that lasted nearly an hour. An attempted traffic stop on a highway in the region ended with a deputy’s patrol car rammed and the alleged culprit in handcuffs. The Saratoga County incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, on I-87 in Clifton Park.
