Ethel Norkin, 99, Stamford Resident
STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford resident Ethel "Etty" Lavinsky Norkin died Tuesday, May 31. She was 99.
A Stamford native, Norkin went back to school as an adult, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Connecticut.
Norkin is survived by her husband, Nathan Norkin; daughter and son-in-law, Constance Norkin and Christopher Lightfoot; and many nieces and nephews.
Norkin was predeceased by her parents, Celia and Morris Lavinsky,; and three sisters, Florence Friedman, Miriam Folb, and Elaine Siegel.

VERPLANCK, N.Y. — Verplanck resident Margaretann Cuevas died Tuesday, May 31. She was 67.
Cuevas was employed by the Hendrick Hudson School District for many years and locally was a member of the Verplanck Ladies Auxiliary for almost 50 years, as well as a member of the Hudson Valley Ladies Auxiliary Fire Department.

DARIEN, Conn. — Darien resident Joanne Kelly Hagopian died Monday, May 30. She was 86.
She graduated from Michigan State University and moved to Darien in 1967.
Hagopian is survived by her three children, Susan, Thomas and Matthew; her daughter-in-law, Anna; nine grandchildren; siblings, Harry Kelly and Mary James; and more than 40 extended family members.
Hagopian was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Louis Hagopian; and her parents, Harry F. Kelly and Anne O'Brien Kelly.

RIVER EDGE, N.J. — River Edge resident Thomas Schlomann died Tuesday, May 31. He was 84.
Schlomann was the sole proprietor of Tom's Auto Parts.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #5015 in River Edge.

CLIFTON, N.J. — Clifton resident Louis Sasso died Tuesday, May 31. He was 93.
A Lodi native, Sasso lived there for 24 years before moving to Garfield for 11 years, then finally settling in Clifton 58 years ago.
He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force and was decorated with the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Sasso was a truck driver for more than 35 years, retiring in 1987 from Transcontinental in Clifton.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — Former PepsiCo chief executive Roger Enrico died Wednesday, June 1. He was 71.
Enrico led the charge in Westchester-based PepsiCo's battle with Coca-Cola during the 1980s.
He attended Babson College, served in the U.S. Navy, then worked as a brand manager in 1971 for Frito-Lay, a PepsiCo subsidiary.
In 1983, at 38, he became the chief executive of Pepsi-Cola USA before being named chief executive and chairman of PepsiCo in 1996.
