Westport Lowers Mill Rate, Sets Tax Rate  WESTPORT, Conn. — The Westport Board of Finance unanimously approved lowering the mill rate which means less taxes for property owners in town beginning July 1, according to the Westport News. The tax rate reduces the present 18.09 mills to 16.86, a 6.8 percent reduction, a result of less spending in the 2016-17 budget and increased property values in the previous year's revaluation in Westport, said the Westport News. Shelton Budget Approved With No Increase In Taxes SHELTON, Conn. -- Shelton residents can expect no increase in taxes after the Board of Aldermen approved a budget of $122,284,654 for 2016-17, according to the Shelton Herald. The approved budget represents a $162,138 spending increase, with tax and mill rate staying set at 22.31, the Shelton Herald reported. The board also approved a spending increase of $1.6 million to the Board of Education.
