Covid-19: Broadway Show Taking Hiatus Until Mid-March A Broadway musical is set to take a hiatus until March amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in New York City. Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical announced on Sunday, Jan. 2, that it will be on hiatus between Monday, Jan. 10 and Monday, March 14. Man Killed In Suffolk County House Fire An investigation is underway after a man was killed in a house fire on Long Island. Brentwood Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 66 Stepney Lane at about 4:50 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. SCPD said a man was alone in the home at the time and died in the fire. The man's identity will be determined by the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, authorities said. A preliminary investigation determined that the cause of the fire was non-criminal in nature, police said. Check back to Daily Voice for updates.

New York Man Claims $1 Million Lottery Prize A New York man has claimed a lottery prize worth at least $1,000,000. Queens resident Mario Gonzalez, of Jackson Heights, claimed the $1,000 a Week For Life CASH4LIFE second prize, according to a report from the New York Lottery on Friday, Dec. 17. He opted to receive his prize as a yearly payment. Gonzalez received the first payment of $31,837 after required withholdings, and will continue to receive the payments of a like amount each year for life, the lottery reported. Don't Fall For Them: State Police Issue Alert On Scams Asking For Large Sums Of Money Police have issued an alert about recent scams targeting residents for large sums of money in New York State. In the past month, state police in Columbia County have been investigating reports of a scam where callers pretend that the victim's grandchild or relative has been arrested and a bail bondsman needs to be paid, New York State Police reported.
