Area Man Facing Felony Charges After Allegedly Striking Police Vehicle An area man is in custody after authorities say he struck a police vehicle. Sullivan County resident Danny Smith, age 32, of Monticello, was arrested on Sunday, July 4, and charged with felonies of first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Monticello Police Department. Former Area HS Sports Standout Dies Suddenly At Age 33 A Hudson Valley man who played for multiple varsity sports teams and graduated from Binghamton University, has died at the age of 33. Rockland County resident Colin Joseph O’Connor died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 4, according to his obituary. He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Susan, along with his siblings. O'Connor graduated from Clarkstown South High School in 2005, and he participated on the Vikings varsity football and track teams. Long Island Community Rallies To Support Injured Teen Struck By Mortar-Type Firework Thousands of dollars have been raised to support a teen who was injured by a mortar-type firework on Long Island on July 4th. The incident happened in Deer Park at about 10:50 p.m. Suffolk County Police reported that a group of teenagers was lighting off fireworks in front of a residence on Arcadia Drive when the firework hit the boy. Man Charged With DWI After Crash Between Mercedes, Truck On LI Expressway A local man has been charged with driving while intoxicated in a crash that critically injured a tow truck operator on the Long Island Expressway. The Suffolk County Police Department said Joseph Savasta, age 57, of Oyster Bay, was arrested on Wednesday, July 7, following the two-vehicle crash in Hauppauge. Westchester Man Goes Missing While Jogging Authorities are asking the public for information on the disappearance of a Westchester County man who went missing after going out for a jog at a Virginia resort. According to the Sheriff's Office in Patrick County, Virginia, first responders and volunteers have been searching for 61-year-old Bruce Rubin since he went missing on Friday, July 2. Man Seriously Injured In Long Island Crash A driver suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash overnight on Long Island. The Nassau County Police Department said the crash happened around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, in Syosset. Police said a 64-year-old man was northbound in a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe on Cold Spring Road near Renee Road when he struck a tree. Authorities said the driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries. NCPD said the investigation is ongoing.

Two Women From Fairfield County Accused Of Stealing $230 Worth Of Items From Walmart Two local women have been arrested for allegedly stealing merchandise from a Walmart in the area. Officers in New Haven County responded to a report of theft at the Walmart located at 1365 Boston Post Road in Milford. Two Fairfield County residents - Aisha Thomas, age 44, of Bridgeport, and Tatiana Long, age 27, of Bridgeport - were accused of stealing about $230 worth of merchandise. Police said the women face charges of sixth-degree larceny and sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.

Westchester Native Replaces Jeff Bezos As Head Of Amazon A native New Yorker from the region has replaced Jeff Bezos as the CEO of Amazon. Hudson Valley native Andy Jassy, who grew up in Westchester County, has worked at Amazon since 1997, and he previously served as the company's CEO of web services, according to Business Insider. Police Searching For 'Armed, Dangerous' Hudson Valley Man Police are alerting the public as they search for a person of interest in a fatal shooting in the Hudson Valley. The shooting took place late last month in Ulster County.
