Covid-19: Long Island Infection Rate Climbs Past 15 Percent Amid New Increase In Cases The infection rate of COVID-19 tests on Long Island has risen past 15 percent. New York State officials said that as of Sunday, Dec. 26, the seven-day average on Long Island had reached 15.42 percent, climbing from 14.79 percent on Saturday and 13.98 percent on Sunday. Officials reported a total of 26,737 new COVID-19 cases in its update on Monday, Dec. 27, and 166,681 tests. The state also reported 132 deaths from COVID-19 over the holiday weekend. Man Crashes Into Nassau County PD Cruiser While Resisting Drug Charges Arrest, Police Say A 33-year-old Long Island man was charged after authorities said he crashed into a police vehicle while resisting arrest on drug charges. Sean Crombie, of Copiague, was arrested following a fatal overdose investigation that occurred on Saturday, Dec. 25, in East Meadow, according to the Nassau County Police Department. Police were investigating the fatal overdose of a Nassau County resident. 26-Year-Old Killed In Nassau County Crash An investigation is underway after a 26-year-old died in a crash on Long Island. The single-vehicle crash happened in East Meadow at 2:20 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, according to the Nassau County Police Department. NCPD said the man was riding his 2012 Harley Davidson west on North Jerusalem Road when the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a pole near the intersection of North Jerusalem Road and Shakespeare Place. NY Styrofoam Ban Takes Effect Jan. 1: Here's What To Know New York State's ban on single-use Styrofoam food and beverage containers and packing peanuts will soon take effect. According to the state Department of Environmental Conservatism, the ban on packing peanuts and food and beverage containers made of polystyrene foam, often known by the brand name Styrofoam, will go into effect on Saturday, Jan. 1. NY Man Shares Big Plans After Winning $2 Million Lottery Prize A New York man has claimed a $2,000,000 lottery prize, and he shared what he plans to do with his winnings. Ibrahima Bah, of the Bronx, told the New York Lottery he has big plans for his winning prize, saying his first plan is to buy a house. Police Announce Results Of Targeted Speed Enforcement Detail In Northern Westchester State Police announced the results of a targeted speed enforcement detail that was implemented in Northern Westchester County. New York State Police conducted the enforcement detail on Monday, Dec. 20, on State Route 9 in the town of Cortlandt and the village of Croton-on-Hudson. Police said 26 tickets were issued during the enforcement period, including 22 for speed-related offenses. State Police said speeding is a contributing factor in nearly one-third of the state's fatal crashes.
