Westwood Physics Students Experiment With Van de Graaf Generator WESTWOOD, N.J. -- Westwood students in Henry Chen’s Physics class had a shocking experience when they linked their hands to a Van de Graaf generator. The mysterious machine collects a large number of negatively charged particles on its dome. When the students put their hand on the dome, the negatively charged particles start collecting on the students as well.  This sometimes results in a hair-raising experience. When the students are linked, they are one big chain of negatively charged particles waiting to surge to the ground or the nearest conductor.

Clifton School Wins $8,000 From Follett Challenge CLIFTON, N.J. -- Clifton's Elementary School 11 was awarded $8,000 after being named a People's Choice winner of the Follet Challenge.School officials submitted a video showing how educators at School 11 use technology to bring learning to life for students.  The video starts with an old-time feel and switches to color as it shows students using Google Chromebooks and the various ways they help them learn. School 11's video was a top 10 vote-getter, earning it the $8,000 prize. The money will go to support the media center.

Improvements Set For Fair Lawn's River Road and Maple Avenue FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Construction to improve River Road and Maple Avenue in Fair Lawn is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 14. The project consists of road widening, drainage improvements, traffic signal improvements, replacement of curbing & sidewalk, and milling and paving of the entire intersection. The contractor’s normal working hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. During construction, there will be changes in traffic patterns so expect delays and plan an alternate route. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-July.
