Norwalk Man Who Fired Shots At Bridgeport Police Gets 5 Years In Prison
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A career criminal from Norwalk was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison after pleading guilty to illegal possession of a firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly.Branden Huertas, also known as "Branden Holloway," fired shots at Bridgeport police during a foot chase on May 13, 2014, Daly said in a statement. Officers eventually arrested Huertas after finding a loaded .22-caliber revolver he had ditched during the chase, Daly said. Rockland Homeowner Frustrated As Bear Damages Property
POMONA, N.Y. -- A black bear has been making the rounds at one Pomona home, tearing up a backyard and destroying a front gate, according to News 12. Homeowner George Baladi told the news channel that he called police during a recent black bear encounter, but that officers did not confront the animal, leaving it the matter for animal control. Baladi told the channel that he owned a gun, but is not allowed to shoot the bears, which had never caused damage before the most recent incident. Read the full story at News 12.

Police Seek Witnesses To Fatal Poughkeepsie Crash
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Police are seeking witnesses to a car crash that killed a pedestrian on Spackenkill Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie this past weekend. Randall Housey, 48, died about 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, after being hit near Millbank Road, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. The Poughkeepsie Journal has identified the driver of the car as a 76-year-old woman from Wappinger. Authorities did not say whether she would face any criminal charges in connection to the crash. BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A 79-year-old retired Bridgeport school teacher will avoid prison after pleading guilty to negligent homicide for her role in a Stratford car crash that killed a 41-year-old mother of two, according to the Connecticut Post. Police believe Eleanore Olbrys, a former teacher at Harding and Bassick high schools, hit the gas instead of the brake on the afternoon of Nov. 16, 2014, propelling her Ford Escape into a pickup truck driven by Greg Anderson on Main Street in Stratford, according to the report.
