Bergen Catholic Mock Trial Team Wins State Championship PARAMUS, N.J. -- The Bergen Catholic Mock Trial team won the 2016 New Jersey state championship recently. It is the Crusaders' first state title since 2000, and the fifth state championship in school history.  The team will now compete at the 2016 National High School Mock Trial Tournament May 12 through May14 in Boise, Idaho.

Closter Rec Department Announces Little League Opening Day Festivities CLOSTER, N.J. -- The Closter Recreation Department will hold its annual Little League and girls softball parade and opening day on Sunday, April 24.  All children in grades K-8 are encouraged to march in the parade with their team. The parade will start at the Borough Hall and proceed through town to the George Potterton Little League field. After the opening day ceremonies, games will take place at the various fields in town. Lyndhurst Police Chief, Captains Get New Contracts LYNDHURST, N.J. -- The Lyndhurst Police Chief and and its two captains will get a raise thanks to a new two-year contract, according to NorthJersey.com.  Captains John Valente and Patrick Devlin will see their salaries jump from $145,272 to $148,178 in 2016 and to $151,142 in 2017. Bergen Freeholders Purchase Implantable Microchips For Adopted Pets HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Bergen County Freeholders approved a resoultion to purchase 2,600 implantable microchips for the Bergen County Health Department’s Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.The microchips, implanted in animals adopted from the BCASAC as well as at community outreach events, increase the ability of shelter staff to reunite pets with their owners if they are ever lost. All animals picked up or handed into the animal shelter are scanned for a microchip with a universal scanner. ShopRite of Ramsey Associates Featured on Special Edition Cheerios Box RAMSEY, N.J. -- Two employees of ShopRite in Ramsey are being featured on a special edition Cheerios box in recognition of their fundraising efforts. Harding and Chalas helped raise $19,287 s part of the annual ShopRite Partners in Caring Cheerios Contest.  During the campaign, ShopRite associates across six states raised funds to support regional food banks in communities served by ShopRite stores. As one of the top stores, ShopRite of Ramsey was awarded $500 to donate to the Center for Food Action.
